Here’s the thing. We are filmmakers for a living – and we produce beautiful images for our clients, but on this YouTube channel, we’ve really only ever talked about making beautiful images. We haven’t really been actually doing that. Because it’s a YouTube channel. It hasn’t been a priority.

But it’s eating us up inside that we’re not showing our best effort here, so for the next few weeks, we’re going to be making videos about our process to improving our YouTube videos, one step at a time.
THIS WEEK: The first thing we need in order to bring our channel to the next level is a dedicated studio space where Dovid can talk to the YouTube audience on a weekly basis. To start us off, we’re talking about a very basic 3-point lighting setup.
A 3-point lighting setup consists of:
  • The Key Light: which is the brightest light, and will be our main light source (usually placed high and off to one side).
  • The Fill Light: which is dimmer than the key light and placed off to the opposite side.
  • The Back Light: (or Hair Light, or Rim Light) which is placed behind the subject. It’s purpose is to illuminate the edges of the subject, to separate the subject from the background.

Once done, the subject looks a whole lot better than they did without the lights. Until next time. keep making beautiful images!
